2019 elections: Tsunami in Delta, Okowa wins guber polls, ends Great Ogboru’s status as a serial contestant

A major political upheaval has taken place in Delta state as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at exactly 2:30 p.m. today, Monday, March 11, 2019, declared the second term seeking Governor of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa as the winner of the March 9th Governorship elections.
The Returning Officer for the elections, Prof. Seth Accra-Jaja of the Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State while declaring Okowa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the election also declared that because Okowa had satisfied all the requirements for the elections as prescribed by the law, he then pronounced Okowa as duly elected and therefore, returned elected.
In what has been described as a Tsunami, the Returning Officer declared that the PDP candidate polled a total of 925,274 votes to beat his closest rival, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled a total of 215,938 votes. The third runners up, according to the Returning Officer, polled a mere 2,032 votes.
By the result of the election, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has successfully secured the mandate of all Deltans for a second term in office that will be officially flagged-off on May 29, 2019.
Accordingly, and as observed by many political watchers, Governor Okowa by this victory has finally retired Chief Great Ogboru from the notorious identity of a serial contestant for the office of the governor of Delta State. By this victory, all the contention against Okowa for his second term as governor of Delta State ceases.
Details of the Delta state governorship result between the two main contending political parties, APC and PDP are as follows:
