Ahead of the 2027 general elections, prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Sir Itiako Malik Ikpokpo, has rallied members of the Ikpokpo Political Family across Delta South Senatorial District to close ranks and work for the victory of President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and all APC candidates in the forthcoming polls.

The resolution was reached on Wednesday during the second meeting of the Ikpokpo Political Family held at Ikpokpo’s country home in Uro-Irri, where political associates and coordinators from the eight local government areas of Delta South Senatorial District pledged to mobilise grassroots support for the party.

Addressing the gathering, Ikpokpo, who convened the meeting, said the forum was organised to provide members with an opportunity to freely interact, express their concerns and adopt a common political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.

He acknowledged that the circumstances surrounding his withdrawal from the APC Delta South Senatorial primary election were unpleasant but insisted that he had moved on in the interest of the party.

According to him, his loyalty to the APC remains unwavering, adding that he is fully committed to working for the party’s overwhelming victory in 2027.

Ikpokpo, a former Director-General of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Managing Director of Dunamis Icon Limited, described the APC as Nigeria’s most viable political party, praising President Bola Tinubu as the country’s strongest presidential candidate and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as a performing governor deserving of re-election.

Drawing from his experience as Chairman of Isoko South Local Government between 2014 and 2021, he said local governments had witnessed significant improvement in funding under the Tinubu administration.

“As Chairman of Council from 2014 to 2021, I know what I went through. For six years, Isoko South Local Government recorded monthly allocation deficits averaging between ₦24 million and ₦40 million. Today, states and local governments are better funded because we now have a President who clearly understands the dynamics of both micro and macroeconomics,” he said.

Ikpokpo also commended President Tinubu’s efforts toward state policing, noting that he had advocated local government policing for over a decade as a solution to Nigeria’s security challenges.

He described the President’s support for state policing as a bold and commendable step, expressing confidence that the country was on the path to recovery despite existing challenges.

“Of course, the President is not perfect. There are still challenges to overcome and much more work to be done. However, I am confident that the nation is on the surest path to recovery under his leadership. Unfortunately, we had a government that slept for eight years,” he stated.

On Governor Oborevwori’s performance, Ikpokpo said the governor had demonstrated exceptional leadership through the delivery of critical infrastructure projects and reforms aimed at improving governance in Delta State.

He also praised the governor’s humility and willingness to engage stakeholders in strengthening party unity and governance.

While acknowledging grievances raised by members during the meeting, Ikpokpo appealed for unity, understanding and renewed commitment to the APC, stressing that only a united political family could guarantee electoral success in 2027.

At the end of the meeting, members unanimously resolved to intensify grassroots mobilisation across all wards and polling units in Delta South Senatorial District in support of President Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori and all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.

The meeting was attended by coordinators from the eight local government areas of Delta South Senatorial District, alongside members of the Ikpokpo Political Family from Isoko South and Isoko North Local Government Areas.
