2027: Imo youth group backs Unachukwu, presses ADC for ticket

A pro-democracy group, Democratic Imo Youths for Good Governance (DIYG), has thrown its weight behind Barrister Sunny Unachukwu, praising his leadership qualities and declaring him fit for legislative office ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued Tuesday, April 21, 2026, after an enlarged meeting in Owerri, and signed by its President, Samuel Nwosu, and Secretary, Chinedu Emeruwa, the group commended Unachukwu’s resilience and longstanding commitment to nation-building.

The socio-political organisation noted that Unachukwu’s contributions to deepening democracy in Nigeria “cannot be overemphasized,” adding that he has remained steadfast in advancing the welfare of the people.

Describing him as a “true democrat,” DIYG expressed confidence in his ability to deliver effective representation for the people of Mbaitolu/Ikeduru Federal Constituency if elected to the House of Representatives in 2027.

The group further projected that Unachukwu would champion impactful legislation focused on youth empowerment, socio-economic growth, and infrastructure development across the constituency.

Following what it described as extensive consultations, DIYG formally welcomed Unachukwu’s decision to join the 2027 National Assembly race, insisting he remains “the best man” to provide responsive and people-oriented representation.

It also pledged to mobilise massive grassroots support and votes for the chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in both the party primaries and the general election.

In the same vein, the group called on the ADC leadership in Imo State to cede its Mbaitolu/Ikeduru ticket to Unachukwu, citing his “enormous capacity” and suitability for the legislative role.

The youth advocacy body also urged Nigerians to take advantage of the ongoing nationwide voter registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stressing the importance of obtaining Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

“The PVC remains the only constitutional tool available to citizens to effect change and elect credible leaders at all levels,” the group stated.
