The immediate past governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa Monday prayed for the success of his successor, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme as he exited the office after eight years in the saddle.
At an impressive inaugural ceremony of Governor Oborevwori and his Deputy, witnessed by a capacity throng of people at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Okowa recalled that his tenure had been eight years of trials, tests and achievements, pointing out that the ceremony was a day for him to appreciate all those who joined his administration to provide a stronger Delta.
He prayed that the incoming administration will surpass his administration in all ramifications.
To Governor Oborevwori, Dr. Okowa said: “Serve God, reverence Him.” He backed his admonition of the Governor by calling his attention to Psalm 72: 11-12, which reads: “Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him; All nations shall serve Him.
“For He will deliver the needy when he cries, The poor also, and him who has no helper.”
Dr. Okowa, who was accompanied by his wife, Dame Edith, his Deputy, Barrister Kingsley Otuaro and his wife, Engr Ebierin, thanked all Deltans for the support and cooperation given to his administration.
Meanwhile, Okowa had earlier on Sunday officially handed over the reigns of leadership to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
The brief handover ceremony took place at about 4pm at the Governor’s office at Government House, Asaba.
Okowa who prayed for the new Governor before the official handover, said he was confident Oborevwori would deliver on his M.O.R.E Agenda for the people of the state.
The official handover ceremony featured signing of relevant handover documents and the official presentation to Oborevwori by Dr Okowa.
The handover ceremony was witnessed by Head of Service, Mr Reginald Bayoko and the Permanent Secretary, Government House, Sir Eddy Ogidi-Gbegbaje.
