The Forum of Delta State Non-Governmental Organisations (FODESAN) has called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the alleged attack on the Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Protocol, Mr. Temple Mudi, at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun.
In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Deacon Okezi Odugala, and Secretary, Mr. Ekenem Omosor, the reputable civil society coalition and and think-tank for civil society organisations expressed concern over reports of the incident and urged the Delta State Government to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack are transparently investigated.
FODESAN said an objective inquiry would help establish the facts of the matter and ensure that anyone found responsible is held accountable in accordance with the law.
The organisation noted that violence, regardless of its cause or the political affiliations of those involved, has no place in a democratic society, stressing that such incidents could undermine public confidence and threaten the peace and stability of the state.
It also cautioned that recurring acts of political violence could negatively affect Delta State’s reputation as a peaceful and investment-friendly environment.
The forum appealed to political leaders, supporters and other stakeholders to exercise restraint, embrace dialogue, and uphold the rule of law in resolving disagreements, rather than resorting to actions capable of escalating tensions or disrupting public order.
Reaffirming its commitment to peace, good governance, justice and the protection of democratic values, FODESAN said it would continue to advocate for a safe and peaceful civic space where differences are resolved through lawful and democratic means.
