Sapele – A renowned cleric, Ambassador Bishop Kingsley Majemite, has raised an alarm over the deteriorating security situation in Sapele Local Government Area.

The founder of Jesus Solution Bible Ministry who spoke to our reporter on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at his Warri – Sapele Road office, expressed deep concern about the rising cases of kidnapping and robbery, which he described as a threat to the peace and lives of residents.

The cleric painted a grim picture of the security challenges facing the area. “For the past few weeks, Sapele has been a hotbed of insecurity. kidnapping and robbery incidents have become commonplace, and the DPO is under immense pressure,” Bishop Majemite said.

He revealed that he recently visited the DPO’s office and observed firsthand the toll the security crisis had taken on the police officer. “The man is visibly stressed and overworked. He’s been working tirelessly to address the situation, but the challenges are overwhelming,” he added.

To tackle the menace, the cleric called on the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, who is also the Chief Security Officer of the State to intervene urgently. He emphasized the need for additional police divisions in Sapele Local Government Area, citing the vastness of the territory and the limited manpower available to the current division.

“Sapele Local Government is too large to be serviced by just one division. Compare it to Uvwie Local Government Area which has about five divisions. We have communities like Ugboren, Ugbukurusu, Ibadan-Elume, Adagbasa, Gana, Oton, and Ajemele, all under one division. This is simply not enough,” the cleric lamented.

Majemite further highlighted the shortage of police personnel, attributing it to retirements without replacements. “We need more policemen on the ground. The division requires more vehicles and personnel to effectively combat crime,” he said.

The cleric urged the government to collaborate with the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies to establish more police divisions in Sapele. He also appealed to security operatives to prioritize their duties and avoid corrupt practices.

“I urge our security personnel to be diligent and focused on their core responsibilities. We need to see tangible results in terms of arrests and crime reduction. Let’s not be distracted by petty issues,” he stated.

Bishop Majemite concluded by expressing hope that with concerted efforts from the government and security agencies, the security situation in Sapele would improve significantly.
