The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has charged the management of BiG HEART Radio 92.1 FM, Asaba, to use the new broadcast platform to promote truth, unity and sustainable development in Delta State.

Guwor gave the charge on Saturday when he joined dignitaries at the official commissioning of BiG HEART Radio 92.1 FM in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The commissioning attracted the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori; media icon, Prince Nduka Obaigbena; the Asagba of Asaba, Obi Prof. Epiphany Azinge; and other prominent sons and daughters of Asaba Kingdom.

The new radio station was established by a notable son of Asaba Kingdom, Dr. Anthony Idigbe, SAN, as part of his investment in the state’s media and communications sector.

Governor Oborevwori, who was scheduled to officially commission the station, was represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Government House, Dr. Michael Osuoza, while the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Hon. Charles Aniagwu, was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Mrs. Stella Macaulay.

Speaking after the commissioning, Guwor, who was represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, described the establishment of the station as a welcome development, stressing that broadcasting remained an important instrument for informing, educating and uniting society.

“A radio station is more than equipment and a building. It is the voice of the people. It informs, educates, entertains, and unites communities,” he said.

The Speaker, who is also Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, noted that the rapid growth of Asaba and Delta State required credible media platforms capable of complementing the development taking place across the state.

“Asaba is growing, Delta is growing, and we need more credible voices to complement that growth. BiG HEART RADIO 92.1 FM comes at the right time,” Guwor stated.

He commended the promoters of the station for investing in Delta State and creating employment opportunities, particularly for young people.

According to him, the media remains a critical partner in the administration of Governor Oborevwori, both in communicating government policies and programmes to the people and in holding government accountable.

“Under the present administration, being led by His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the media remains a critical partner in telling the Delta story and holding government accountable,” he said.

Guwor pledged the support and partnership of the Delta State House of Assembly to the new radio station, while urging its management and staff to uphold professionalism and responsibility in their reportage.

He stressed that the station should deploy its platform towards building a peaceful, united and progressive society.

“I urge you to use this platform responsibly to promote unity, development, and truth,” the Speaker said.

Guwor congratulated the management, staff and promoters of BiG HEART Radio on the commissioning, expressing optimism that the station would make a positive impact on the people of Delta State.

“May this station go on air and remain on air for the good of our people,” he added.

The event was attended by the wife of the proprietor, the Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Mr. Charles Ebuebu, prominent sons and daughters of Asaba Kingdom, family members, friends, business associates and other dignitaries.
