The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Obi (Prof.) Epiphany Azinge (SAN), has called on Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to appoint more Asaba indigenes into key government positions while accelerating development projects in the state capital.
The monarch made the appeal on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, during a courtesy visit to the governor at Government House, Asaba.
Leading a high-powered delegation, Obi Azinge commended Governor Oborevwori’s achievements in infrastructure, human capital development and urban renewal, describing his leadership style as “people-oriented and unassailable.”
“The love of my people for you is boundless, unshakable and irreversible. In the past two years of your administration, Asaba has witnessed rapid urbanization, improved security, and exponential investment across sectors, making it one of the fastest-growing state capitals in Africa,” the monarch said.
He also expressed gratitude to the governor for personally presenting him with the staff of office in November 2024, saying the honour was for the entire Asaba community.
The Asagba, however, urged government to prioritize the inclusion of Asaba indigenes in political appointments, resume work at the stalled International Conference Centre, develop a comprehensive master plan for the capital city, and intervene in power supply, water, roads, schools, and healthcare facilities in surrounding communities.
Responding, Governor Oborevwori thanked the monarch and the people of Asaba for their unwavering support, describing traditional rulers as vital partners in governance.
“It is always a pleasure to receive our revered traditional rulers whose wisdom and counsel continue to guide us. Since your ascension, Your Majesty, you have brought peace, unity and cultural pride to the Asaba Kingdom,” the governor said.
He highlighted ongoing projects including new road construction, storm drainage works re-awarded to CCECC, resurfacing of Nnebisi Road with streetlights, and additional internal roads under the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency.
The governor also disclosed that the federal government had awarded the reconstruction of the Summit Junction–Head Bridge section of the Benin–Asaba Highway to Heartland Construction Company, with the state government supporting compensation payments for those affected by the Second Niger Bridge project.
Reaffirming his commitment to inclusive and sustainable development, Oborevwori urged the people of Asaba to extend their goodwill to President Bola Tinubu, stressing that political alignment at the federal level would attract greater benefits to Delta State.
“Asaba is the face of our state, and we must continue to make it beautiful and secure. Working together with our traditional rulers and communities, we will deliver more projects and ensure peace and progress in our state,” the governor assured.
