NAF says over 2,300 terrorists eliminated as air campaigns shift battlefield dynamics

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says its sustained, intelligence-driven air operations have neutralised more than 2,351 terrorists nationwide, a result the service argues is reshaping mobility, logistics and command networks of armed groups across multiple regions.

Official figures show the results stem from 247 air-interdiction missions conducted through 379 combat sorties, targeting enclaves, logistics depots, training camps and key movement corridors. The missions generated nearly 800 flight hours, a measure NAF says reflects improved aircraft availability and endurance.

Spokesperson Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame said the figures do not capture additional intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) flights or close-air-support operations that have complemented ground forces.

Operational Impact

NAF reports that precision strikes disrupted supply pipelines, degraded communication links and narrowed freedom of movement for terrorist cells in the North-East, North-West and North-Central zones. Security officials say these effects helped ground troops retake contested areas and stabilise several previously volatile communities.

In the Niger Delta, air missions also targeted illegal refining networks, destroying numerous reservoirs, 126 storage tanks and boats allegedly linked to oil theft. The Air Force says the actions weakened criminal financing and supported national revenue recovery.

Leadership Assessment

Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, described the outcomes as evidence of tighter targeting, better training and stronger joint coordination with other security agencies. He attributed improved readiness to federal investments in platforms, welfare, training and infrastructure.

Looking Ahead

Aneke said operations will intensify in 2026, while stressing adherence to Rules of Engagement and international humanitarian law. Civilian protection, he added, remains central, with ongoing upgrades to intelligence validation and mission oversight.

The Air Force urged citizens to provide timely, credible information to aid continuing security operations.
