₦2.5m Extortion Storm: CP Aina Sacks Jesse DPO, Orders X-Squad Probe as Viral Video Rocks Police

The Delta State Police Command has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jesse Division, CSP Chidi Nwabuzor, following a viral video in which a woman accused him and two other officers of extorting ₦2.5 million.

In a decisive move on Friday, January 9, 2026, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, directed the Command’s X-Squad to launch a full investigation into the allegation, which has sparked public outrage.

The Command confirmed that the video shows a woman alleging that the DPO, alongside officers identified as Bright and Usman, demanded ₦2.5 million to secure the release of her brother, who is currently in police custody.

Providing background to the case, police said the woman’s brother, Israel Onojeruo, 20, was arrested on January 1, 2026, after being handed over to the police by the youth leader of Jesse community alongside other suspects. His arrest followed the confession of another suspect, Okoro Desmond, who allegedly admitted selling a firearm to Onojeruo. The suspects were later transferred to the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) for further investigation.

Despite the ongoing investigation, the Command said CP Adesola promptly acted on the extortion allegation. The constable identified as Bright in the video has been detained at the Command Headquarters, while CSP Nwabuzor has been removed as DPO and redeployed to the headquarters pending the outcome of the probe.

Police sources disclosed that the DPO’s removal was also informed by a series of complaints bordering on extortion and unprofessional conduct from multiple quarters.

The Commissioner of Police assured the public that any officer found culpable after investigation would be dealt with decisively in line with the Police Act and extant regulations.
