Delta Police step up traffic enforcement, Mobile Courts set for offenders

The Police Command in Delta State  has announced intensified enforcement of traffic laws and related revenue offences across the state with immediate effect.

The move follows confirmation from the Delta State Judiciary, through the Office of the Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice, acting on behalf of the Chief Judge, Justice T.O Diai, that designated Mobile Courts are operational across various jurisdictions in the state. The courts are empowered to summarily try traffic and other minor offenders in line with existing laws.

According to the Command, surveillance, patrol and enforcement operations will be strengthened across major roads and urban centres, including Asaba, Warri, Effurun, Sapele, Ughelli and Agbor. Traffic offences listed for immediate arrest and prosecution before the Mobile Courts include reckless driving, driving against traffic, use of unauthorised number plates, driving without registration numbers, unauthorised use of sirens and revolving lights, obstruction, and other related violations.

The Police warned that there would be zero tolerance for traffic indiscipline, obstruction of law enforcement officers or attempts to evade lawful arrest, urging residents to comply strictly with traffic regulations.

The Command stressed that the enforcement drive is not punitive but aimed at restoring order, improving road safety, protecting lives and property, and ensuring adherence to the rule of law. While law-abiding citizens have nothing to fear, offenders were cautioned to be ready to face the full weight of the law.

The statement added that the Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Aina Adesola, remains committed to public safety and the enforcement of the law.
