Oborevwori commissions 31km lifeline road, vows riverine transformation

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 declared that his administration is actively rewriting the development narrative of riverine communities through targeted infrastructure and people-centred policies.

He made the statement while commissioning the reconstructed 31-kilometre Ohoror–Bomadi Road, a key corridor linking Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Patani, Burutu and Bomadi local government areas.

Describing the project as a landmark achievement, Oborevwori said it reflects his government’s commitment to equitable development, especially in historically neglected riverine areas.

“We are resolved to rewrite the story of our riverine communities. Sustainable development must reach every part of the state, regardless of terrain,” he said.

The governor noted that the road would boost socio-economic activities by improving connectivity, easing trade, and enhancing access to essential services across at least five local government areas.

He stressed that infrastructure remains central to economic growth, adding that improved road networks would link farmers to markets, attract investment and strengthen rural-urban integration.

Providing details, Oborevwori said the project involved complex engineering tailored to swampy terrain, including sand filling, soil stabilisation, concrete reinforcement, embankment protection and asphalt surfacing, with road widths ranging between 6.5 and 10.3 metres.

He also highlighted ongoing and completed projects across the state, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the MORE Agenda built on fairness, justice and equity.

According to him, the State Executive Council recently approved projects worth over N400 billion spanning infrastructure, health, education, power, judiciary and security.

On electricity, the governor said efforts are underway to tackle power challenges through transmission upgrades and transformer installations, noting that several communities cut off for over a decade have now been reconnected to the national grid.

He further announced plans to strengthen security through the establishment of police divisions in all 25 local government areas and a Special Protection Base.

Earlier, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the road project cuts across multiple communities and was built with modern engineering solutions to withstand difficult terrain.

Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Council, Hon. Dagidi Andaye, described the project as historic, noting that the area had not witnessed such development in over 16 years.

Community leaders and stakeholders, including Hon. Nicholas Mutu and Senator James Manager, praised the governor’s inclusive approach to governance, assuring him and President Bola Tinubu of continued political support ahead of the 2027 elections.

Residents said the road would ease movement, reduce accidents and lower transportation costs, bringing long-awaited relief to the area.

The commissioning ceremony attracted a large turnout of residents, political leaders and traditional rulers, underscoring widespread support for the project.
