The restoration of Aniocha North Constituency II, embracing the proud Idumuje and Odiani Clans, is more than a political adjustment; it is a long-awaited correction that gives voice, balance, and renewed hope to a people with a rich heritage and a clear vision for their future. It is, therefore, both fitting and encouraging that the people have risen in unison to demand not just representation, but quality representation, the kind that understands their needs, reflects their aspirations, and can deliver meaningful results.
In answering this call for credible leadership, one name has resonated strongly across communities, homes, and stakeholders’ gatherings: Mr. Roy Chukwudinma Umunna.
A proud son of Idumu-Ogo in Odiani Clan, Roy Umunna embodies the very essence of grassroots connection and progressive leadership. His emergence as the preferred choice of the people is neither accidental nor politically contrived; it is the natural outcome of years of consistent service, visible impact, and unwavering commitment to community development.
From his early days as a labour leader spanning the Students’ Union movement, NULGE, and the NLC, Umunna has demonstrated courage, organization, and the ability to stand for collective interests. These formative experiences shaped his deep understanding of advocacy, negotiation, and people-centered governance, skills that are indispensable in legislative representation.
At the community level, his credentials are even more compelling. As a traditional chief in his hometown and the current President of Idumu-Ogo Development Union (Asaba Branch), he has not only led but inspired development initiatives that have directly improved lives. His role as Assistant Secretary of the Idumuje and Odiani Clans Elders and Leaders Forum further underscores his acceptance across generational and leadership divides, a bridge-builder in every sense.
Beyond titles, however, it is his impact that truly sets him apart. Roy Umunna’s investments in youth development, through scholarships, payment of primary school examination fees, and the sponsorship of annual football tournaments, speak volumes about his belief in the future of his people. He understands that true representation goes beyond rhetoric; it is about creating opportunities, nurturing talent, and building a foundation for sustainable progress.
Currently serving as Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Community Development, Umunna has expanded his reach and deepened his experience in governance. His accessibility, wide network of relationships within and beyond the local government, and exposure from extensive travels position him as a man who can connect local needs to broader opportunities.
Equally noteworthy is his character. A devout Christian who respects all faiths, Umunna represents unity in diversity, an essential quality in today’s political landscape. He is widely regarded as a servant leader who has paid his dues, earned his stripes, and remains grounded despite his accomplishments.
As the All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares for the 2027 Delta State House of Assembly elections, the choice before the party, and indeed the people, is clear. The restored Aniocha North Constituency II deserves a candidate who not only understands its history but is prepared to shape its future with vision, competence, and integrity. Roy Chukwudinma Umunna is that candidate.
His story aligns with the aspirations of Idumuje and Odiani Clans. His experience matches the demands of the moment. His passion reflects the hopes of the people.
This is not just a candidacy waiting to happen, it is a call to service that must be answered. For the people of Aniocha North Constituency II, the message is clear and resolute: the cap fits Roy Umunna, and it is time he wears it.
