Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated children across the state on this year’s Children’s Day celebration, urging parents, guardians and caregivers to prioritise the protection, education and proper upbringing of every child.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor said children remained the future of society and must be given the right environment to grow and realise their full potential.
Oborevwori called on parents and guardians to nurture children with sound moral values, quality education and adequate protection from abuse, exploitation and neglect.
According to him, every child deserves access to quality education, healthcare and opportunities that would prepare them for responsible adulthood and leadership.
The governor said his administration remained committed to policies and programmes that promote the wellbeing of children across Delta State.
He noted that the state had domesticated the Child Rights Protection Act to strengthen safeguards for children and protect their rights and welfare.
Oborevwori also highlighted the state government’s free education policy at the Basic and Secondary School levels, describing education as a vital tool for empowering children and securing a brighter future.
He added that his administration had continued to provide free medical treatment for children under the age of five, alongside affordable contributory healthcare programmes for families across the state.
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to initiatives that promote child development, education and healthcare in line with his administration’s MORE Agenda.
He urged children to remain focused on their education, be law-abiding and strive to become responsible citizens who would contribute positively to society.
“Children are precious gifts and the future leaders of our society. We must all work together to ensure they are protected, educated and guided properly to become responsible and productive citizens,” he said.
Oborevwori wished children across Delta State a happy and memorable Children’s Day celebration.
