2027 Re-election of Tinubu my biggest political project, says Oborevwori

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has declared that securing the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 is his foremost political priority, describing it as a project that outweighs every other agenda of his administration.

Speaking during an exclusive interview on ARISE News monitored in Asaba on Tuesday, Oborevwori openly canvassed support for President Tinubu’s second-term bid, arguing that the President’s economic reforms have significantly boosted the financial fortunes of states and enabled governments to deliver more development projects.

“I’m begging people to vote for President Bola Tinubu. It’s my number one project. That project is bigger than any other project because it will help us achieve more for our people,” the governor said.

Oborevwori credited the Tinubu administration’s economic policies for the increased revenues accruing to Delta State, saying the improved financial inflow has empowered his government to execute projects without delays and meet its obligations to contractors.

According to him, Delta State is currently enjoying unprecedented financial stability, with contractors receiving payments promptly once projects are certified.

“For the first time in the history of this state, we are not owing contractors. We don’t wait for allocation before paying contractors. Once jobs are certified, we pay. We mobilize contractors with 40 per cent and continue to fund projects as work progresses,” he stated.

The governor maintained that the state’s enhanced revenue profile was a direct product of the Federal Government’s reforms, insisting that the policies were producing tangible results across Delta State.

“If the reforms are not working, will we get this money? More money is coming to the states. The reforms are working very well in Delta State and that is why we are able to execute projects and meet our obligations,” he added.

Oborevwori also expressed confidence in the electoral prospects of both President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He revealed that extensive consultations involving political leaders, elected officials, stakeholders, religious leaders and non-indigenes preceded the recent mass defection of Delta political stakeholders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

Describing the movement as a “political tsunami,” the governor said the decision was collectively taken after widespread consultations across the state.

“We all agreed that we should move. That was why the movement was a tsunami. We moved en masse into the APC and nobody was left behind. The same people who agreed to move are still there to defend the party,” he said.

The governor further dismissed concerns about opposition parties gaining ground in Delta, insisting that the performance of his administration and the numerous projects being executed across the state would strengthen APC’s chances in future elections.

“There are too many projects that we have done and we are still doing. If I start commissioning projects every week, I may not finish before the election. The people can see what we are doing and they know the difference,” he said.

Oborevwori expressed optimism that Delta State would deliver substantial votes for President Tinubu in 2027, maintaining that the President enjoys strong goodwill across the state and the South-South region.

He also highlighted what he described as President Tinubu’s affinity with Delta State through First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s Itsekiri roots, arguing that many Deltans regard the President as part of their extended family.

“The people of Delta State believe in President Bola Tinubu. They believe in him because, among all the candidates that may emerge, he is the only one with a strong affiliation to Delta State. Many people may not know this, but Deltans are wiser now. The man is our in-law. Unless someone chooses to be unfair, why would you vote against your own in-law? It is a family affair,” Oborevwori said.

The governor concluded by reiterating his confidence in the President’s reforms, insisting that they were yielding positive results and would ultimately earn Tinubu another mandate from Nigerians in 2027.
