Delta Agency boss inspects flood control project draining through Ogbeogonogo Market to Otuogwu Bay

ASABA, Nigeria – The Director General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), Patrick Ukah, on Tuesday conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing construction of flood control measures along Ogbeilo/Ugbomanta Streets, including a major discharge drain that cuts through Ogbeogonogo Market to Otuogwu Bay.

The tour was aimed at assessing the level of progress on what the agency describes as one of the most critical infrastructure interventions in the capital territory. The project is designed to tackle persistent flooding that has historically plagued Ogbeilo, Ogbeogonogo, and adjoining areas, especially during rainy seasons.

Speaking after the inspection, Ukah acknowledged the project’s enormous technical demands and scope but expressed satisfaction with both the quality and pace of work achieved so far. He noted that the discharge drain would significantly improve stormwater management, protect lives and property, and enhance environmental sanitation across the state capital.

Upon completion, safety measures such as barricades and caution tapes around deep manholes will be installed to prevent accidents and discourage the indiscriminate dumping of refuse into the drainage system, Ukah added.

The Director General also inspected the ongoing construction of the Ogbeogonogo Modern Market, which he said will boost commercial activity, improve access, and provide a more organized trading environment. He revealed that upon completion, traders currently operating along the streets will be relocated into the new market stores to restore orderliness and ensure free vehicular and pedestrian movement.

As part of the tour, Ukah visited several other major infrastructure projects across the capital territory, including:

· Construction of Ogochukwu Mowers/Prince Nwanne Street and Bepof Lane, Asaba;
· Completed roads within Olikili Layout (Mike Arinze Street, Ezeweani Way, Tony Bakaso Street, Trust in God Lane, and Emma Obiokolo Street with a spur to Two Close off Ibusa Road);
· Construction of Chris Abudei Street/Ogbueshi M. Onochie Street, Asaba;
· Reconstruction of Asaba Palace Road off Nnebisi Road by UBA, Phase II.

Ukah commended the contractors for their commitment and urged them to maintain required standards and delivery timelines. He reaffirmed the Delta State Government’s commitment, under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s leadership, to providing sustainable infrastructure that improves residents’ quality of life and supports economic growth in line with the MORE Agenda.
