Asaba, Nigeria – Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, on her historic election as the first female President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), calling her victory a landmark moment for the legal profession and a triumph of merit, excellence, and gender inclusion.
In a statement issued Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor praised Badejo-Okusanya’s emergence as a reflection of the legal community’s confidence in her distinguished career, which has been defined by integrity, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to justice. He expressed optimism that her leadership would fortify the profession, deepen the rule of law, and drive reforms to expand access to justice nationwide.
Oborevwori urged the new NBA President to unite members following the keenly contested election and to collaborate with stakeholders in advancing judicial reforms, upholding the Constitution, and reinforcing the legal profession’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s democratic evolution. He extended his best wishes for a successful tenure.
The governor also celebrated two Deltans elected to the NBA’s National Executive Committee. He described Chief Oghenero Okoro’s election as First Vice President as well-deserved recognition of his outstanding contributions, noting that Okoro, a former Chairman of the NBA Warri Branch, brings pride to Delta State and a wealth of experience to his new role.
Additionally, Oborevwori congratulated Mrs. Gladys Aghogho Okpomor on her election as Assistant General Secretary, highlighting her previous service as Assistant General Secretary of the Young Lawyers Forum, Minna Branch, and commending her dedication to the profession’s growth. He said her emergence underscores the rising influence of Delta professionals in Nigeria’s legal community.
The governor wished all newly elected officers a fruitful tenure and charged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism while working to advance both the interests of the bar and the administration of justice in the country.
