Tinubu departs Abuja for Makkah to perform Umrah, Commissions Air Force equipment before takeoff

ABUJA, Oct. 28, 2026 — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will leave Abuja on Thursday for Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform Umrah, the Islamic pilgrimage to the Holy City, the Presidency announced on Wednesday.

In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), the Presidency said the trip will give Tinubu an opportunity for spiritual reflection, devotion and prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity, stability and continued progress.

While in Makkah, the President will perform the religious rites associated with Umrah, seeking Allah’s guidance and blessings for the country and its people, the statement said.

Before his departure, Tinubu will commission equipment recently acquired by the Nigerian Air Force for its operations. The ceremony will take place at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The President is expected to return to the country next week after completing the spiritual exercise, the statement added.
