African Education Monitor honours Proprietress of Heir of Salvation Schools, Mrs Victoria Ojei

For her outstanding role in deepening private school education in Nigeria, the Proprietress of Heir Salvation Schools, Okeira ,Ogba,Lagos, Mrs Victoria Ojei, was recently honoured with the Pillar of Private School Education in Nigeria Award.

The prestigious award which was bestowed on Mrs Ojei and 34 others school proprietors and proprietresses, was organised by the African Education Monitor Magazine

The event which took at the  Centre for Management Development(CMD), Magodo, Lagos, attracted eminent educationalists and professionals, also featured  public lecture titled: “Sustaining the legacy and impact of Private Schools Education in Nigeria in the face of multiple challenges.”

The guest speaker was Dr Abiodun Lamidi, Deputy Provost , Federal College of Education(Technical) Akoka, Lagos.

He X-rayed the challenges confronting private school education in contemporary Nigeria.

Lamidi therefore urged private school owners and administrators in the country to be proactive and ingenious in managing their limited resources in the midst of harsh economic realities.

Mrs. Victoria Ojei whose maiden name was Mordi, an indigene of Igbodo town (Idumu-Ozei) in  Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, was born twin with her sister Gloria, on  Sunday March 25, 1967. Her journey through life has been a remarkable one, marked by an unwavering commitment to family values, education and service to the society.

Upon completing her early education, Mrs. Ojei embarked on a path of academic excellence. She pursued her high school education at the well known Uselu Grammar School in the ancient city of Benin. Her quest for knowledge led her to the University of Benin, Benin City where she  obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with honours in Sociology and Anthropology in 1996.

As is mandatory, Mrs. Victoria Ojei dedicated a year to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), serving diligently at the Union Bank of Nigeria, Ikeja Area Office from 1997 to 1998, with an additional eight months as an adhoc staff, courtesy of the Bank’s management. Her journey to professionalism continued  with a stint as alLecturer in Omega Business School, Ifako, Lagos, where she taught Social Works, before joining Omega Bank, which later metamorphosed into Spring Bank, now Heritage Bank, from 2002 to 2009.

Simultaneously, alongside her husband, she played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Heir of Salvation School in 2004. Driven by her passion for education, she in 2009, took up the role of proprietress/administrator, thus contributing to laying a strong foundation for the school’s growth, high academic standard and all -round successes so far recorded by the institution as an enviable citadel of learning.

In her quest for professionalism, Mrs. Ojei obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from Nigeria’s Teacher’s Institute (Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto) in 2006. Her passion for learning did not stop there. She proceeded to achieve an Master’s of Science degree in Sociology and Anthropology ( majoring in Sociology of Development) from her alma mater, University of Benin in 2017.

Mrs. Ojei’s commitment extends beyond the realm of education. She has been a devoted Deaconess in the Redeemed Christian Church of God since 2012, contributing to her faith community.

Her personal life is enriched by her marriage to Chief Augustine Ojei, of Issele -Azagba in Aniocha LGA of Delta State, a distinguished professional, consummate intellectual, populist Economist and holder of the prestigious title of FCA. Together, they are blessed with vibrant children, and nurturing a loving family.

In every facet of her life, Mrs.Victoria Ojei embodies forthrightness, dedication, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to the betterment of her community, her family, and the pursuit of, and impacting of knowledge. Graduands of Heir of Salvation School are found in various Nigerian Universities including Universities of Lagos, Benin,FUTO (Owerri), Jos Nsukka, Ado-Ekiti etc and even from some  West African universities, some have meritoriously graduated from these institutions.

In recognition of these sterling qualities which to her are modest, but to watchers of community, are great contributions, this well deserved Award of honour was bestowed on heron October 26, 2023.
