YOUR GOVERNMENT IS FINANCIALLY RECKLESS, DELTA APC SLAMS OKOWA.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Delta State is appalled by the financial recklessness of the PDP led government in Delta State, under the supervision of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. In fact, the level of financial indiscipline in the governance of Delta State smells to high heavens.

Recently, figures released by the Federal Government shows that Delta State Government received the highest Federal monthly allocations between January and November 2019. Besides the Federal monthly allocations, hundreds of billions of naira were received by the State Government from excess crude account, ecological fund, internally generated revenue and other sources. While Delta State got about N214B (two hundred and fourteen billion Naira) within the aformentioned period from Federal allocations, with no tangible, landmark and/ or productive projects to show for it, States like Rivers, Lagos, Ebonyi and Oyo that received far less amount are executing landmark, quality and productive projects for their people.

Sadly, Governor Okowa gives out contracts to unknown companies, popularly referred to by Deltans as “Umukoko, Umukoro and sons”. That is, they are companies that have no track record of good engineering works. In fact, some of the companies/firms are known for shoddy and half-baked projects. A serious minded government should not be seen patronizing such companies, except for ulterior motives!

Also, Delta State is bleeding financially because of wanton appointments of political lackeys without specific mandates. Governor Okowa and his appointees are in competition as to who appoints the highest number of political aides. Presently, the Governor has more than three thousand aides without any assigned roles.

Less than a week ago, Deltans received the news of over one hundred liaison officers, appointed by the Managing Director of DESOPADEC, a supposed interventionist agency for the oil producing communities in Delta State. The so called “liaison officers” were appointed without any specific roles for the good of Deltans. Rather, information available says that they were appointed as his “hallelujah boys/propagators” of his 2023 House of Representatives political pursuit. What a waste of resources!

Another area where the government of the State had conquered shame is, budgeting of billions of naira for propanganda of unseen projects of the State government. In particular is the 2019/2020 budget of DESOPADEC, wherein over four billion naira was earmarked for publicity (propanganda) of non-existent and productive projects.

APC, Delta State calls on Deltans and people of goodwill to double their efforts in asking questions and calling on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to shun his present financial recklessness for low quality jobs and unprofitable political appointments. Cities and Towns in Delta State cannot continue to remain in the current state of squalor.

Barr. Ogheneluemu Sylvester Imonina,
Publicity Secretary, APC, Delta State.
