ASABA, Delta State – The management of Asaba Specialist Hospital has drawn widespread praise for its recent free MRI scan initiative, a groundbreaking programme that has provided critical diagnostic services to hundreds of residents across Delta State at no cost.
Spearheaded by Chief Medical Director (CMD) Peace Ighosewe and her team, the scheme has been hailed as a major intervention in a state where soaring healthcare costs often place advanced imaging out of reach for ordinary families.
Consultant Neurologist Dr. Yusuf Yakub, who reviewed numerous patient results, described the exercise as nothing short of life-saving. “We have been able to detect critical cases early and refer them for proper treatment. The free MRI scan has taken a huge burden off families,” he stated. He further noted that the hospital employed the second-best radiologist in the country to conduct the scans, ensuring that both imaging quality and diagnostic interpretation were top-notch.
In an interview with journalists, CMD Ighosewe explained that the hospital bolstered its Radiology and Records units with additional staff to guarantee efficiency. “That decision made the process more professional and ensured that results were released fast. Patients no longer wait for weeks. It is seamless, even now that the window for the free scan is closed,” she said.
Beneficiaries and their relatives have also voiced deep appreciation, describing the programme as a blessing amid rising medical expenses. Mrs. Ighosewe reaffirmed that the initiative aligns with the Delta State Government’s MORE Agenda and reflects her personal commitment to accessible healthcare.
Looking ahead, the CMD assured Deltans that the hospital would partner with the media for wider publicity of its programmes, aiming to reach more residents in need of essential medical services.
