Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a coalition of governance experts, legal practitioners, and policy advocates is set to dissect the fault lines between voting and tangible results, as the 2026 BEL Dialogue convenes in Asaba on July 30.
Organisers have confirmed a high-profile panel of discussants to lead the conversation, including Dr. (Barr.) Wilfred Latimore Oghenesivbe, JP; Dr. Egondu Grace Ikeatu; Hon. Gibson Akporhe; Amb. Augusta Chibuzor Keneboh; and Professor Andrew Agboro. The selection, according to the Advisory Board’s Executive Director, Emmanuel O. Enebeli, underscores a deliberate push to bring “accomplished professionals” with deep roots in public administration and civic engagement to the table.
This year’s theme, “Democracy That Works: Bridging the Gap Between Votes, Results and Institutional Accountability,” will focus squarely on electoral integrity, transparency, and actionable reforms. Enebeli noted that the discussions are timed to produce practical recommendations that could strengthen Nigeria’s democratic institutions before the next national poll cycle.
The event, scheduled for Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. , will be held at David’s Event Centre on Anwai Road, Asaba. Adding weight to the proceedings, former INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hon. Mike Igini, will chair the dialogue, while the Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Hon. Charles Aniagwu, will attend as Special Guest of Honour.
Veteran broadcaster and General Manager of Kruzz FM, Asaba, Mr. Lawrence Okpewho, will moderate the interactive session.
Enebeli expressed optimism that the dialogue would move beyond rhetoric, generating “meaningful public discourse” and fostering a blueprint for responsible leadership and institutional accountability in Nigeria.
