Residents of Boji-Boji metropolis and environs have been called upon to desist from dumping refuse on running water and gutters whenever it is raining.

This unhygienic attitude, according to concerned individuals is inimical to the environment as well as the society. A Special Assistant to Governor Okowa on Land Security and Water ways, Hon. Liberty Nwajie said that the habit of disposing refuse in gutters and waters is thwarting government efforts.

“This is the reason why some roads don’t last, the garbage gets stock at certain places, forcing the water pass through wrong directions, most times eroding the surfaces,” he noted.

Hon. Nwajie said that government at the council level should enact by-laws prohibiting people from disposing trash indiscriminately and setup committees to enforce it.

Also speaking, the Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ika South Chapter, Comrade Christian Izekede, said that most people were unrepentant and habitually engaged in such unhealthy act.

According to him, more awareness should be carried out on this issue, adding: “Most times those engage in this act are those that reside in remote areas. They won’t patronize waste disposals but go about in cover of darkness to drop refuse at junctions and blushes.”

He however called on well-meaning individuals to continue to rebuke people found of such act.

On his part, a business man, Kennedy Igbeken urged both state and local governments to take advantage of such to generate revenue from offenders.

“By so doing, the State will become cleaner, everybody will more civil and our environment will be healthier,” he added.
