The Federal High Court sitting in Asaba on Monday granted bail to human rights activist and social commentator, Comrade Victor Ojei, popularly known as Wong Box Nigeria.
Presiding judge, Justice Felicia Olubanjo, ruled in favour of the defendant after considering his bail application, stressing that the charges brought against him were bailable offences.
“I have carefully considered the application for bail and the charges are bailable ones. I therefore exercise the discretion of this court in favour of granting the applicant bail. He is innocent until proven guilty,” the judge stated.
Justice Olubanjo, however, cautioned against discussions and commentary on the ongoing proceedings on social media, warning that the court would not tolerate its deliberations being subjected to online review.
The judge specifically directed counsel to the defendant to ensure strict compliance with the warning.
As part of the bail conditions, the court admitted Ojei to bail in the sum of N2 million, alongside a refundable deposit of N500,000 to be paid to the Chief Registrar of the court.
The matter was subsequently adjourned to June 17, 2026, for further proceedings.
Justice Olubanjo also ruled that the defendant would remain in custody pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.
