The Delta State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty of CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, psc, mnips, as the 25th Commissioner of Police in the state.
Erale takes over from CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, who previously headed the command.
Born on March 2, 1968, at Pedro Police Barracks, Shomolu, Lagos State, the new commissioner hails from Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, obtained in 1992.
He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1994 as a member of Course 18 Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police and has since served in several operational, administrative, investigative and command positions across the country.
His early police career began in Kogi State, while his professional experience also includes international peace-support operations. In 2000, he served as part of the Nigeria Police Force contingent to the United Nations Mission in Kosovo.
Erale has held several senior positions at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, including assignments in the Promotions Section of the Office of the Force Secretary and the Special Investigation Unit of the Force Criminal Investigation Department.
He has also served in various capacities across Kogi, Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers and Osun states, as well as at Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, and the Force Headquarters.
Among his notable postings were Personal Assistant to the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Personal Assistant to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police at Zone 7, Provost of the Police Mobile Force, Squadron Commander of MOPOL 33 in Ekiti State, Squadron Commander of MOPOL 26 in Akwa Ibom State, and senior administrative and operational positions in several commands.
The new Delta police commissioner spent 14 years of his career in the Police Mobile Force, serving as a squadron commander for nine years. His extensive tactical and operational experience also earned him deployment as CP Elections for the recently concluded off-cycle elections in Osun State.
According to the Delta State Police Command, the Osun assignment was adjudged one of the most peaceful and successful elections in recent times.
While undertaking the national election assignment, Erale was posted in August 2026 to assume leadership of the Delta State Police Command as its 25th Commissioner of Police.
His appointment brings to the Delta Command a senior officer with extensive experience in tactical policing, administration, investigations, community safety and electoral security.
The command is expected to provide further details on the new commissioner’s policing priorities and agenda for Delta State as he settles into office.
