Dastardly, gory murder of Joy Onekansi; tied, stabbed, throat slit, buried in shallow grave

Miss joy Obiageli Onekansi, 35, a native of Okwunzu in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State is dead. She died in a grotesque encounter with her killers who live in her compound on Anene Street, opposite the Cenotaph, Asaba, Delta State capital.

Fondly called Ada Jesus by her admirers, the product of Delta State University (DELSU) Abraka, met her untimely death in which her killers, a maigad from Niger State and another suspect who sources identified as a Nollywood Director, tide her, inflicting several stabs on her stomach and chest before finally slicing off her throat. Her killers finally buried her in a shallow grave in the compound
Speaking to journalists at the scene of the murder soon after homicide detectives this morning exhumed the already decomposed and putrid body of Joy and took it away, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olaleye Faleye investigation so far showed that the gory and dastardly incident happened on August 22, 2020, and that the suspects were nabbed by the police on the September 2, 2020.

He said luck ran out on the Maigad, when he was intercepted at the Police checkpoint on Summit Road, Asaba while driving out with members of his family in one of the cars owned by Joy. That on interrogation he could not give satisfactory reason for being in possession of the car.

He was arrested and detained. It was in the course of investigation that it was discovered that the car belonged to Joy, of whom the family had already reported to the police as missing. Following intense questioning, the maigad caved, confessed and admitted that the car belonged to the missing Joy.

He then took policemen to the compound. It was in the course of going round the compound that one of the detectives stepped on a freshly dugged soil, and had his leg going down into the soil. Suspicion was aroused, and upon further examination, the placed proved to be a shallow grave bearing the putrid body of Joy, tied hands and leg, with stab wounds on her belly and chest, and pushed face down into the shallow grave.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police confirmed that investigation is continuing to unravel other mysteries surrounding the cold blooded murder of the graduate of engineering who lived alone in her flat.
He said the two suspects are helping the police in their investigation.
