The Delta State House of Assembly on Tuesday adjourned plenary for a six-week annual recess, with members expected to resume legislative activities on September 1, 2026.

The decision followed a motion moved by the Leader of the House, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, and seconded by Hon. Pereotu Oloye, representing Burutu II Constituency. The motion was unanimously adopted during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor.

Before formally declaring the recess, Speaker Guwor commended lawmakers for their diligence, dedication and commitment to legislative duties throughout the just-concluded session.

He urged members to use the break productively by participating in scheduled capacity-building programmes aimed at strengthening their legislative knowledge and improving their effectiveness in lawmaking and oversight.

The Speaker also encouraged lawmakers to reconnect with their constituents during the recess, engage them on government policies and programmes, and return with their concerns and aspirations for legislative consideration.

“Dear colleagues, I must commend all of you for your hard work, commitment and dedication to the service of our people. I encourage you to seize the opportunity of the forthcoming training to equip yourselves with more legislative insight that will further improve your performance,” Guwor said.

He also praised the management and staff of the Delta State House of Assembly for their professionalism and unwavering support, describing their contributions as vital to the smooth operation of the legislature.

Guwor equally acknowledged the media for consistently providing balanced and responsible coverage of the Assembly’s proceedings, committee activities and oversight functions.

He urged journalists to sustain their partnership with the legislature in keeping the public informed about its activities and expressed appreciation to other stakeholders for supporting the passage of people-oriented bills and motions.

The Speaker wished members, staff and all stakeholders safe travels during the recess and expressed optimism that lawmakers would return refreshed for a more productive legislative session when the House reconvenes on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
