Delta Govt to Omo-Agege: ‘Mudslinging’ won’t distract Oborevwori

By Our Reporter

The Delta State Government has dismissed allegations by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is plotting to eliminate him, describing the claim as “spurious and provocative.”

Commissioner for Works, Rural Roads and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, stated this on Friday at a press briefing at the Ministry of Information Conference Room in Asaba, where he addressed recent political developments in the state.

Aniagwu said the Oborevwori administration would not be distracted by what he described as the “mudslinging antics” of opposition politicians, insisting that the government remained focused on delivering credible leadership and fulfilling its promises to Deltans.

Omo-Agege, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial candidate for Delta Central, had recently raised an alarm alleging that his life was under threat and accused Governor Oborevwori of plans to “eliminate” him.

Reacting, Aniagwu challenged the former Deputy President of the Senate to focus on selling his political programmes to voters rather than allegedly attacking the governor.

“Instead of them telling the people what they intend to do, they have resorted to painting a picture which is completely at variance with realities on the ground,” he said.

The commissioner maintained that Oborevwori remained focused on implementing the administration’s MORE agenda and making life more liveable for residents of the state.

He explained that the government’s decision to respond to the allegations was not an indication that it was rattled, but rather an effort to prevent what he described as misleading narratives from gaining traction.

“While we need to respond sometimes is not because we are disturbed, but because we do not want some gullible minds to possibly get deceived by some of these narratives that are at variance with the reality,” Aniagwu said.

He cited the recently held Delta State Economic Summit, which attracted global figures including the President of the World Trade Organisation, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, as evidence of what he described as the credibility of Oborevwori’s economic vision.

According to him, the administration’s achievements over the past three years would become increasingly evident to Deltans as political campaigns intensify.

Aniagwu further advised Omo-Agege to concentrate on the Delta Central senatorial contest, particularly his rivalry with incumbent Senator Ede Dafinone, instead of dragging the governor into a contest he said Oborevwori was not contesting.

The commissioner also accused Omo-Agege of contributing to divisions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State during and after his tenure as Deputy President of the Senate.

He claimed that Oborevwori’s leadership had subsequently helped unite the various political factions in the state.

Aniagwu reaffirmed the governor’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of all residents, including Omo-Agege, but warned against what he described as unnecessary attempts to heat up the political atmosphere through unsubstantiated allegations.

He said the administration would remain focused on governance and delivering development projects across the state, regardless of political attacks.
