Delta law makers approve Okowa’s N71b request, passes supplementary appropriation bill

The Delta State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, May 17th, 2023, approved Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s request for N71 billion and passed the State 2023 Supplementary Appropriation Bill.

Process for the passage of the Bill followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Hon Ferguson Onwo and seconded by the Deputy Chief Whip and member representing Uvwie State Constituency, Hon Solomon lghrakpata.

Supporting passage of the Bill, the Majority Leader while leading debate for the 2nd reading said going by the constitution, the State Governor Dr Ifeanyi Okowa followed due process in seeking the approval of the State Assembly to authorize the expenditure from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the State government.

He said due to the increase in some fiscal receipts, it was pertinent that the Bill is passed by the House in order to enable government fund on-going projects and pay for some critical projects and activities of government.

Onwo said when passed, the Bill would promote good governance and also speed development across the state.

The Deputy Chief Whip and member representing Uvwie constituency Hon Solomon lghrakpata and the member representing Ika North East Constituency, Hon Emeka Elekeokwuri and others unanimously supported the Bill.

Also at plenary the Public Petitions Committee led by the Chief Whip Hon Pat Ajudua submitted its report on an alleged non- payment of retirement benefit to Dr Lucky Odeyile.

After an intense debate the lawmakers unanimously agreed to adopt the report of the Committee to relax the petition.

At Wednesday’s plenary, presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Ochor Christopher Ochor, the House also passed the Compulsory Treatment and Care of Victims

The passage of the Compulsory Treatment and Care of Victims of Gunshots Bill followed the suspension of House relevant rules moved by the Majority Leader Hon Ferguson Onwo and seconded by member representing Ika North East constituency Hon Emeka Elekeokwuri.

Hon. Ferguson Onwo later moved for the passage of the Bill which was then seconded by the member representing Sapele constituency Hon Felix Anirah

The Deputy Speaker lauded lawmakers for their overwhelming support leading to the passage of the two Bills.
