Delta State Government said a law is underway to regulate the activities of waste managers and residents in the state.
The state commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this yesterday in Asaba during a press briefing while responding to enquiries from journalists.
Aniagwu, who hinted that the law would be wholistic, said that it ensured that the people of the state lived a healthy life, saying it would be unveiled in the next few weeks.
The commissioner, who was accompanied on the briefing by the Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, noted that the state was having challenges distributing its excess power generated to private homes.
According to Aniagwu, the state’s independent power plant (IPP) had been completed and supplying power to government offices but faced opposition from the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) who refused to have the excess power supplied to private homes.
He stated that power had been largely privatized, reasoning that it would be not be proper for the state government to continue to buy transformer that would eventually be owned by a private power distribution company.
Responding to an enquiry, the commissioner promised to liaise with his energy counterpart to look into reported cases of limited capacity of the transformer in Ogbe-Ogonogo Market, Asaba to sort with the BEDC.
