Delta plans tourism information desks at airports

In order to market and promote Delta State as a preferred tourist destination, the Delta State Government has established information desk at the Asaba International Airport, Asaba and the Osubi Airport, near Mr. Chinye Bazim Emmanuel, disclosed this today, Wednesday, 15/8/2018, in Asaba when he took his turn to brief the press on the activities and achievements of his Directorate.
Mr Chinye stated that the information desk was established at the two airports to provide first hand information to tourists and visitors coming into the state.
He explained that it was part of the responsibilities of the directorate to develop and promote tourism in the State.
He also stated that to increase the revenue base of the state, the Directorate had appointed Pearl-Stone Consulting Ltd as a consultant for data management, collection of registration/renewal fees from all hospitality and tourism enterprises in Delta State.
“The Directorate has already signed the necessary memorandum of understanding (MOU) with them and data base of all hospitality enterprises is being compiled” the commissioner said.
As part of government’s efforts to harness and develop talent of young Deltans in entertainment development, the commissioner revealed that the Directorate through its Entertainment and Talent Development Department had articulated logistics support for events and show promotions, saying it was with a view to attracting events that would drive tourism traffic to the state.
He listed some of the events that were organized and sponsored to include, the Labour National Development Room Show, Delta Talent Quest, equivalent to Big Brother Africa in Abuja and Davidmon Talent Quest.
The commissioner also revealed that in order to have accurate statistical data of the State’s tourism potentials and assets for developmental, promotional and marketing purposes, the directorate had embarked on familiarization tour of tourism sites and attractions within the state.
He stated that some officers of the directorate were also sent on 8-day tour of Lagos and Cross River States to understudy the intricacies and selling points behind the success story of tourism development in the states with a view to replicating same in Delta State.
According to the commissioner, it was meant to establish a long-term bilateral relationship through staff training and exchange programmes for the overall development of tourism in the State.
The commissioner bemoaned the lack of a befitting art gallery to house some of the best efforts of renowned Delta Artists such as Bruce Onobrakpeya, Billy Omabegho among others, saying it was desired to showcase and significantly promote the cultural heritage and values in the State.
