Dirty Business: Mobile Court Jails 34, Sentences 6 to Community Service as Delta Sanitation Sweep Nets 43 defaulters

UGBOLU, Delta State – It was a costly Saturday morning for residents who chose to flout the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, as a mobile court convicted 34 defaulters and sentenced six others to community service during a joint enforcement operation by the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DCTDA) and the Ugbolu Community leadership.

The crackdown, which took place between 7:00am and 10:00am on April 25, 2026, saw Magistrate Dike Magdalene preside over a total of 43 cases brought against residents who failed to observe the state-sanctioned cleanup exercise. By the time the gavel fell, 34 offenders had been convicted, three were discharged, and six were ordered to perform community service.

Leading the enforcement team, the Head of Environment of the Agency, Mr. Isaac Nwosu, representing the Director General, Mr. Patrick Ukah, reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance stance on environmental violations. The operation was carried out in close partnership with the President General of Ugbolu Community, Mr. Anthony Udezua.

The Agency described the exercise as part of an ongoing push to boost public health and environmental cleanliness across the capital territory, warning that defaulters would continue to face prosecution without exception. Residents were reminded that maintaining a clean environment remains a collective responsibility.
