DTHA Works Committee orders to meet with ULO over construction work on Asaba Airport, roads

As part of doing its oversight functions, the Delta state House of assembly Committee on Works on Wednesday, 10/11/2017 directed the Commissioner of Works, Chief Augoye to order the authorities of ULO Consultants, who are the contractors handling the Asaba International Airport as well as the construction of other roads in the state to meet with the committee next Wednesday, 15th, November, 2017 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon.
House Committee chairman, Chief Evans Evwurie gave the directive when the Commissioner led his team of Ministry officials to the House of assembly complex on Okpanam Road, Asaba for the defense of the Ministry’s budget for 2018.
The Committee expressed concern over the way ULO is handling all the construction work both for the airport and other road projects. The committee is particularly displeased with the slow pace of work by the contractor. It was indeed revealed that the failed Maryam Babangida way, Asaba was done by ULO.
The commissioner lamented that the Okowa administration is caught in the web of the problem created by the slow pace of work on the Asaba International Airport, because the contract for the runway and other parts of the airport was awarded in the twilight of the Uduaghan administration. “N5bilion loan was secured from Zenith Bank for the completion of the airport runway. After ILO collected the 50 percent payment he did not complete it, instead of working within three months it took nine months. As we speak ULO has moved to runway 29 but has not commenced work,” Augoye hinted.
Chief Ivwurie the said:”Arrange, call the contractor next Wednesday, 15/11/2017 at 2 o’clock, that the committee would want to meet the contractor, along with the Ministry of Works officials.”
