Elumelu makes case for Okowa’s 2nd term, as PDP Aniocha North adopts Okowa as sole candidate for 2019 governorship

Former member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu has made a strong case asking for the support of the political leaders of Aniocha North for the second term bid of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to occupy Government House, Asaba come 2019.

Elumelu at the meeting called at his instance that had in attendance prominent political leaders of the local government where a motion was also moved and overwhelmingly carried adopting Governor Okowa as sole candidate of the local government area for second term in 2019, said he called the meeting to formally congratulate the party and the leaders for the victory of the leadership of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples democratic Party at the Supreme Court.

The meeting presided by the Aniocha North Party Chairman, Prince Victor Egbune held on Saturday September 2, 2017 at the PDP Secretariat, Issele-Uku, was attended by Chieftains of the Party in the Area that included Chief Nkem Okwuofu, Hon. (Engr). Emeka Nwaobi of Delta state House of Assemebly, Hon. Barr. Kress Njiokwuemeni, Mr. Sunday Nwaebuni, Chief Barr. Josephine Kachikwu, Barr. Andrew Odum, Hon. Chuks Oseme, Chief Jaunty Okwudi, Chief Vel Okafor and Mr. Emma Chinye , Ogbuefi Nnamdi Mohanye among others.

Elumelu said he called the meeting of the leaders to felicitate with the party over the Supreme Court Judgment that affirmed the leadership of the Makarfi-led National Caretaker Executive Committee of the Party, pointing out that since the congress that brought the Party Executives in the local government area, he had not been able to come to congratulate them.

“You know you are the once that supported me when I went for the House of Representatives, and when I came back, I was to see you, but we went into the issue of the congress and when we were about to congratulate you the issue of the court process cropped in,

“But God did it in his own way and it became pertinent for me to come to at least identify with the party and to appreciate God as well as commend you for keeping PDP in Aniocha North intact while the distraction lasted,” he stated.

He said that God in his own way used the bitter experience and the victory at the Supreme Court to unite the party at all levels in the country, even as he congratulated them for the victory and urged them not to relent in their effort towards joining the Leader of the party in Delta State, Senator (Dr). Ifeanyi Okowa to take the Party to a glorious height in the State and the Country in general.

Elumelu also used the occasion of the meeting to request for the continued support of the Party for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa who, he described as a hard working and sincere senior brother.

“Again, I have come to lay credence to the fact that our senior brother, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa is the Governor of the State as at today, and there is the need for us to continue to support and cooperate with him as the Governor, even for second team,

“We should not look at the individual benefit, but general benefit as it relates to the fact that today our brother is the Governor of a State that is experiencing good governance. In a nut shell, we need to put our heads together and support our own to ensure that he succeeds, because his success is our success,” Elumelu noted.

The former Federal Legislator also argued that Okowa’s second term has a precedent where every Governor that has governed the state did their two terms, stressing that Delta North’s case will not be deferent from what it used to be.

“Therefore, we have to support him to succeed until 2023 and it must be seen that the Anioma people in clear language are in total support of our Governor, our own to succeed,” he pointed out.
He called on the people of the area who are yet to register as voters to do so with a view to increasing the voting strength of the area, adding that it remains an important variable for success in election matters.

Also speaking at the occasion, the member representing Aniocha North in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi stressed the need to support the Governor for second team, affirming that the issue of the Governor’s second team was not negotiable, but a fore-gone conclusion as far as the people of Aniocha North was concerned.

“The issue of Senator Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa’s coming back for a second team is a concluded matter as far as Anioma nation is concerned and as far as Delta State is concerned because even as we speak now, our brothers from the Central and South have taken up the responsibility of preaching the good news of the need for second team for Senator Okowa,

“The Central has done their eight years, the South has equally done their eight years, it therefore becomes important for the North to complete their eight years for fairness and equity,” the legislator posited.

He therefore called on the people of Aniocha North to take up the responsibility of preaching the good news as well as work towards the realization of the second team bid of the Governor Okowa.

Nwaobi’s remarks prompted a motion moved by the former Majority leader in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Kress Njiokwuemene for the adoption of Senator. Ifeanyi Okowa by the Party in Aniocha North as their sole candidate for the 2019 Governorship election in the State.

The motion which was seconded by the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Chuks Oseme was unanimously adopted by the Party through a voice vote superintended by the Party Chairman, Prince Victor Egbune.
