Ex-Governor Uduaghan’s demise: Delta declares three days of mourning; flags to fly at half mast

The Delta State Government has declared three days of mourning in honour of former Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, who died in the early hours of Monday, October 19, 2026, at the age of 71.

The mourning period, which commenced on Monday, follows the death of the former governor, who would have celebrated his 72nd birthday on Thursday, October 22.

As part of measures to honour the late former governor, the incumbent governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed that all flags on public buildings across the state be flown at half-mast throughout the three-day mourning period.

The directive was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu.

The government said the declaration was a mark of respect for Uduaghan, who governed Delta State from 2007 to 2015.

Uduaghan, a medical doctor before venturing into politics, served two terms as governor of the oil-producing state, overseeing its affairs for eight years.

The three-day mourning period is expected to serve as a formal expression of the state government’s respect for the former governor and his contributions to the development of Delta State.
