I’ll revamp Asaba Textile Mill to run three shifts, says Gbagi

Social Democratic Party (SDP) Governorship Candidate in Delta, Olorogun (Barr.) Kenneth Gbagi on Saturday promised to revamp the moribund textile industry in in Asaba if voted in as Governor.

Gbagi speaking in Asaba during a campaign near the Asagba of Asaba palace lamented that subsequent administrations in Delta failed in their efforts to revamp the textile mill said he would do everything possible to restore the industry as doing so would help to ease the worsening mass unemployment and provide employment opportunities for the people, especially the youth in Delta.

Addressing a crowd of party members and supporters in Asaba, the State capital during a mega rally on Saturday March 4th 2023, Gbagi, assured that his government’s plan for resuscitating the state’s textile sector, should be seen as a desirable one which would be followed with concrete steps towards concrete achievements.

Other measures he plans to for the state include reversing the trend of companies leaving the State, stopping smuggling and counterfeiting of textile materials and making patronage of made-in-Delta goods by government agencies a priority, are not altogether new.

While acknowledging that most of the ideas although enunciated before by the various administrations but were poorly enforced, pointing out however that the difference when voted in as governor this time around would be to actualise the plan.

Gbagi said: “Within one year of my being a governor, I will alternate the Onitsha market to 10, 000 shops and it will become part of the Onitsha market and our people will have something to do.

“It is understanding what you want to do will revamp the Asaba Textile Mill, within one year, I will do three shifts and I am not going to do Akwuocha alone. I will take shift for two months to do the Akwuocha.

“I will then move to Jeans materials to produce Jeans material, some will pack it and we will export Jeans material to America, China and we will earn good money.

“I will declare free education to the university level for all Deltans. What is needed is a man of character”, he said.
