Keep your prayer altar aglow, raise Godly family, Dame Okowa charges couples

Governor Okowa and wife, Edith, praying at the Couples Forum.

Wife of Delta Governor, Dame Edith Okowa has charged married couples to keep their prayer altars aglow in order to raise a Godly family.

Dame Okowa gave the charge at the 8th edition of the Couples Forum, a programme organized by her O5 Initiative to mark the celebration of the international family day, on May 15.

The governor’s wife while buttressing the invaluable place of prayers in every family, told the couples to sustain a praying lifestyle to avoid generational gap.

Speaking on this year’s Couples forum’s theme, ‘As Christ Loved the Church’ – Ephesians 5:25, she urged couples to live in happiness as ‘an evening’ is coming when they will need each other.

She called on women to pray more and teach their children about Jesus Christ and encouraged the incoming first lady and her colleagues to always pray for their husbands to make right decisions.

Guest Minister, Rev Don Odunze who spoke on the topic, the Price of a Family, urged husbands to love their wives wholeheartedly even as he condemned abusive and exploitative partners in marriages.

The clergyman advised husbands holding political positions not to abandon their families and the place of prayers in all they do.

Taking his scriptural readings from Proverbs 11:29, Ephesians 5:21-,6:1-10, Odunze listed four prices couples should pay for their family which includes, the price of your presence, the sacrifice of your resources, the sacrifice of your rights and the sacrifice of the altar.

He commended the the state government for organizing a programme for couples, noting that, families living in joy and happiness will be one of the legacies the state will benefit from this program.

Venerable Onyeka Okoh, led a prayer for all families in Delta State using the family of the governor and couples present as point of contact.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Director General, O5 Initiative, Mrs Kevwe Agas, stated that the Couples Forum was a platform to promote love within marriages in the state.

The couples engaged in dancing, exchange of gifts and competitions to spice up the evening.
