Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Patrick Ukah, has pledged the ministry’s synergy with the State Orientation Bureau towards ensuring robust mindset and positive reorientation of children.

Mr. Ukah stated this in his office in Asaba on Wednesday when the Director-General of the State Orientation Bureau, Mr Eugene Azuka Uzum, paid him a courtesy visit.

The commissioner commended the orientation boss and his team for several sensitisation initiatives aimed at changing the behavioural patterns of the younger ones and on the need to shun social vices.

Ukah, who disclosed that his ministry had created an Advocacy and Mentoring Unit, urged the bureau to fashion out ways of enlightening communities on the need for their children to abstain from unnecessary destruction of school facilities.

He emphasized that the ministry had continued to interface with traditional rulers to prevail on their children to desist from vandalization of facilities in their schools.

Earlier, the Director-General, State Orientation Bureau, Mr Eugene Uzum, lauded the commissioner for effective measures put in place by his ministry towards preventing the outbreak of COVID-19 in schools and for reopening schools as well as consistent monitoring of school activities across the state.

Uzum, a lawyer, described the advocacy/sensitisation visit to schools as the best platform to educate the children on the dangers of cultism, drug abuse and prostitution, among other vices, militating against the society.

Present at the visit were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Comrade Samuel Dietake, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Dr. Felix Akporugo, Director of Schools, Mrs Clementina Ojumah, and the Head of the Education Project Unit, Mr Peter Onyeokwuyeni, among others.
