Wife of the Governor of Delta State Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, has called for strong support in the fight against gender-based violence in the state.

Mrs. Tobore, who is the founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation made the call Thursday, November 3, 2023 when Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) visited her during an awareness campaign for the international 16-day activism on gender-based issues at the Government House in Asaba.

Committing her support to the protection of every woman and girl in Delta State, she implored all stakeholders to lend their voice and support to victims of assault, mistreatment, and abuse of all kinds, and emphasized that justice for one is justice for all. She also stated that violence against women and girls would no longer be tolerated in the state.

The CSOs, led by the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Hon. Pat Ajudua, decorated the governor’s wife and presented her with a manual on the National Gender Policy.

Some of the stakeholders at the rally, described gender-based violence as a pandemic that should be given serious attention, as many victims are suffering in silence.

The 16 days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which has the theme, “Invest to Prevent Violence against Women and Girls,” is an annual international campaign that started on November 25 and will continue until December 10.
