NASS, State Houses of Assembly shut as PASAN demands full implementation of autonomy package

Aggrieved members of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), the umbrella union of workers in the National and State Houses of Assembly Mo shut down the legislative houses to press home their demand for the full implementation of autonomy for the legislative houses.

The gate to the Delta State House of Assembly, Okpanam Road, Asaba was firmly locked Monday, with a poster pasted on the gate. The poster reads: “”PASAN Delta State Chapter embarks on Nationwide strike.”

They are asking for the following demands to be met:

  • Financial autonomy & full implementation for the state legislature.
  • Approval & implementation of CONLESS.
  • Training and re-training of staff.

PASAN Chairman in Delta State, Comrade Emmanuel Edozien told banneronlinenews.com that the strike exercise embarked upon is nation wide and it is a fight by the workers to uphold the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“In Delta State, while the autonomy has been domesticated via a law passed, but the implementation is a far cry from what the law stipulated for a consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS).
