The Delta State Government has been called upon to intervene and reorder the emerging disorderliness under the new Koka flyover bridge, Asaba .

A visit to Koka shows a bustling environment taking over by filth, the homeless who now make under the flyover bridge their abode.

As a result of the uncoordinated and unrestrained activities of traders, commercial transport operators and others, under the flyover bridge environment is now littered with indiscriminately dumped wastes, thereby producing stench and causing the environment to stink.

It is a common sight to find not just the elements from the northern and other parts of the country, especially males (popularly called the aboki) and females and homeless children begging for arms. It has also been observed by those living in Koka that most of thees homeless children no longer attend school instead, they spend the whole day soliciting for alms in adjoining streets leading to under the flyover bridge where they end up sleeping.

Mrs Angela Nwankwor, a trader in Koka stated that most of these kids who beg for alms tend to be taken advantage of by unscrupulous drivers and motor conductors and touts (agberos) thereby leading the female homeless children carrying pregnancies, while the male children end up becoming drug addicts . Therefore, Mrs Nwankwor is of the opinion that the Delta State Government should look into this situation and make provisions for these homeless kid beggars to have access to school.

M.r Samuel Ashanti another observer and tricycle driver in Koka also complained about the rough driving and parking of some drivers due to the absence of road signs thereby causing frequent accidents and noise making because of constant arguments between drivers under the Koka bridge.

“Under the newly built Koka flyover bridge has now become homes for some homeless people where they sleep, who end up littering the environment with wastes thereby making the environment to look rough, dirty, stinking and overcrowded.” Mr Ashanti said.

According to him the Delta State Government should make available parking spaces and road signs as well as provide for those sleeping under the bridge in order to save them from growing into miscreants, prevent frequent accidents in the area from occurring as well as maintain a neat, beautiful and healthy Koka environment.

It’s is important than something urgent be done before the environment defaced with human feces.
