NEWS BREAK – Victor Ochei dumps APC, says party must embrace fairness, inclusion or lose relevance

Former Delta State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei esq, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that the party must evolve to reflect fairness, inclusion and the aspirations of the people.

In a strongly-worded resignation statement issued after what he described as “deep reflections and wide consultations,” Ochei said his decision to quit the ruling party was driven by his conviction to pursue a broader political path anchored on service, progress and democratic development.

The former Speaker, who joined the APC in 2016, said he committed the last decade to building and strengthening the party across Delta State, long before many of the current leaders became part of the fold.

Ochei stated that he worked with loyal party members to expand the APC’s grassroots reach, deepen its structures and mobilize support across communities, giving the party “relevance and visibility” within the political landscape of the state.

“Together with many committed party faithfuls, we expanded the party’s reach, deepened its structures, mobilized support across communities, and worked tirelessly to give the party relevance and visibility within our political environment,” he said.

The former lawmaker stressed that his political journey had always been rooted in leadership, grassroots development and public service, adding that he was leaving the APC proud of the role he played in promoting youth inclusion, women participation and democratic growth.

However, he noted that political institutions and leadership must reflect equity and inclusiveness to remain relevant to the people.

“It is in recognition of this need for broader growth and the continuation of my political convictions that I have chosen to chart a new course,” Ochei declared.

He dismissed insinuations that his exit was driven by bitterness or personal grievances, insisting that the move was inspired by his enduring commitment to the political future of the people.

“This decision is not borne out of bitterness, resentment, or hostility toward anyone. Rather, it is inspired by my enduring commitment to service, progress, and the political future I envision for our people,” he added.

Ochei thanked his supporters, stakeholders and loyalists for standing by him throughout his years in the APC and urged them to remain peaceful, focused and committed to democratic ideals.

“As I move forward to continue my political journey from the APC, I do so with hope, renewed determination, and faith in the future,” he stated.

He also prayed for peace, unity and progress in Delta State and the country at large.

The resignation is expected to further reshape political alignments in Delta State ahead of the next electoral cycle.
