Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed profound grief over the death of former Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Sisanmi Otumara, describing his passing as a painful loss to Delta State, the Itsekiri nation, and the political community.
Dr. Otumara, a respected medical practitioner, administrator and politician, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the age of 65.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori paid glowing tribute to the late statesman, recalling his immense contributions to healthcare delivery, public administration and political development in the state.
The governor described Otumara as an accomplished professional whose life was defined by service, integrity and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the passing of Dr. Joseph Sisanmi Otumara, a distinguished statesman, seasoned administrator and former Commissioner for Health whose service to Delta State was exemplary,” Oborevwori said.
According to the governor, Dr. Otumara dedicated his life to the service of humanity, first as a medical doctor and later as a public servant who occupied several strategic positions with exceptional competence and diligence.
He noted that the late former commissioner left behind a legacy of impactful service in healthcare administration, local government management and politics, adding that his contributions would remain indelible in the history of Delta State.
Governor Oborevwori said the death of Dr. Otumara was not only a devastating blow to his immediate family and the people of Warri South but also to the Itsekiri nation and the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he played several key roles.
“His contributions to healthcare delivery, local government administration and political development in Delta State remain invaluable. His death is a great loss to the state and the nation,” the governor stated.
While extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, political associates and the Itsekiri people, Oborevwori prayed for strength and comfort for all those mourning the departed leader.
