ASABA — Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has charged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council to intensify grassroots mobilisation and take the party’s message to every ward, unit and polling centre ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Oborevwori gave the charge on Thursday in Asaba during the inauguration of the Delta State APC Campaign Council, where he unveiled “MORE Plus” as the theme of his re-election campaign.

The governor described membership of the council as a call to service, urging members to demonstrate unity, discipline and dedication in their efforts to secure victory for President Bola Tinubu, himself and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

He stressed that the party must move beyond rallies and political meetings to engage directly with ordinary citizens, including market women, youths, workers, farmers and traders.

According to him, door-to-door campaigns and personal interactions with voters would be crucial to communicating the party’s message and securing support across the state.

Oborevwori also tasked campaign coordinators at the local government and ward levels with strengthening party structures, working with support groups and ensuring that the APC’s message reached every polling unit.

He urged the council to campaign on the performance of APC-led governments, citing the Federal Government’s policies and his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda, which focuses on infrastructure, education, healthcare, workers’ welfare, youth empowerment and security.

“Our achievements must speak for us, but we must also be prepared to explain them convincingly,” he said, urging party members to communicate the impact of government policies to the electorate.

The governor assured Deltans that political activities would not distract his administration from delivering on its promises, adding that ongoing projects and development programmes would continue throughout the campaign period.

He further appealed to politicians and their supporters to maintain peace, shun hate speech and ensure that political differences did not divide the state.

In his remarks, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme commended Oborevwori for aligning Delta State with the Federal Government, urging party members to consolidate the gains through effective mobilisation ahead of the elections.

Onyeme called on APC faithful to publicise what he described as President Tinubu’s achievements in local government autonomy, education funding, grassroots development, security, electricity and road infrastructure.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, defended the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, arguing that difficult decisions were necessary to address the country’s underlying economic challenges.

Keyamo acknowledged that the reforms had caused temporary hardship but maintained that they were intended to tackle structural problems, including the unsustainable cost of fuel subsidies.

Earlier, Delta APC Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, said the inauguration demonstrated the party’s readiness to contest and win elections at all levels in 2027.

He urged members of the council to work collectively, mobilise voters peacefully and translate the achievements of APC-led governments into electoral support.

Former Delta State Governor and Senator representing Delta North, Ifeanyi Okowa, said expectations were high following the mass defection of political leaders and supporters from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in April 2025.

Okowa urged the campaign council to demonstrate the party’s strength through its electoral performance, emphasising the need for direct engagement with voters rather than relying exclusively on rallies.

Speaking on behalf of Delta Central Senatorial District, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor expressed satisfaction that the APC had become the ruling party in Delta State and pledged support for the re-election of Tinubu and Oborevwori.

Similarly, former Secretary to the State Government, Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay, who spoke for Delta South Senatorial District, said the Oborevwori administration’s achievements would provide a basis for the party’s campaign.

He assured the council that Delta South would work towards delivering substantial votes for the APC.

Former APC National Woman Leader and Executive Director of the Nigerian Export-Import Bank, Stella Okotete, called on women to intensify grassroots mobilisation, setting a target of at least 75 per cent of the votes for Tinubu and other APC candidates.

Responding, Director-General of the campaign council, Senator James Manager, pledged to work with party leaders and members to achieve the APC’s electoral objectives.

Manager described the assignment as an onerous task requiring collective commitment, coordination and sustained grassroots mobilisation.

The campaign council is chaired by Governor Oborevwori, with Senator Manager as Director-General and Mr Chiedu Ebie as Deputy Director-General, alongside other party leaders and stakeholders.
