Okonta makes list of 7 more commissioner nominees as House confirms judicial Commission members

Seven more persons have been nominated to for screening and confirmation as commissioners and members of the Delta State Executive Council.

Their names were contained in a letter forwarded by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa yesterday Tuesday, July 09, 2019 to the State House of Assembly and read by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori at the plenary.

The nominees are Engineer Lawrence Ejiofor, Chief Barry Pere Gbe,Chief Julius Egbedi, Chief Fedelis Tilije, Mr Churchill Amagada, Barrister Arthur Akpowhowho and Rt.Hon Martins Okonta.

The Governor said the nomination was in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section 192 sub section 2 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.

He said he would appreciate if early action was taken by the House to confirm the nominees to enable him effect the appointments.

The Majority Leader, Hon Tim Owhefere moved for the House to receive the letter for further consideration and seconded by Hon Charles Emetulu before being adopted.

The Speaker thereafter directed the nominees to submit 35 copies of their curriculum vitae to the Office of the Clerk on or before Wednesday, July 10,2019 and should appear for screening on Thursday, July 11,2019.

Also at the Tuesday plenary the House screened and confirmed the nominees sent to the House by Governor Okowa for appointment as members of the Delta State Judicial Service Commission.

Those screened are Barrister Joseph Obianama Ojobu and Chief James Omanudhowho Obeuwou.

The screening of the nominees followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Hon Tim Owhefere and seconded by Hon. Pullah Ekpotuayerin and adopted.

The nominees were introduced by the members representing their constituencies where some members made application for them to take a bow and go judging from their antecedents in the profession as well as contributions to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The request was granted by the Speaker and the nominees were asked to bow and go.

Thereafter, the Majority Leader,Tim Owhefere moved for the confirmation of the nominees seconded by Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe.

Meanwhile, Governor Okowa has forwarded a nominee for screening and confirmation as the State Auditor General. He is Mr Paul Oghene Aghanenu.

The Governor said the nomination became necessary following the retirement of the erstwhile Auditor General State Mr G.C Amudo having attained the mandatory retirement age of 60.

The Majority Leader, Owhefere moved for the House to receive the letter for further consideration seconded by Hon Festus Okoh .

The Speaker directed the nominee to submit 35 copies of his curriculum vitae to the Office of the Clerk on or before Monday, July 15, 2019 and should appear for screening on Tuesday, July 16, 2019.

Also at plenary the Speaker constituted the House Committee on Selection.

The Committee is Chaired by the Speaker, Sheriff Oborevwori, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ochor Ochor, Majority Leader, Hon Tim Owhefere, Minority Leader, Hon Innocent Anidi, Chief Whip, Hon Pat Ajudua and Deputy Majority Leader, Hon Oboro Preyor as members.

Other members are Hon. Reuben Izeze, Hon Emeka Nwaobi and Hon. Austin Uroye while the Clerk will act as Secretary.
