The Obi of Onicha Ugbo, His Royal Highness, Obi Chukwumalieze 1 has formally announced the date for the 2020 Ine festival.
The Obi, who made the pronouncement in his palace recently during an enlarged meeting with traditional chiefs, opinion leaders, as well as stakeholders, said the Ine festival would hold September 26th, 2020.
The monarch, however said that though it was imperative to uphold the traditions and norms of the land, it was very necessary to be guided in line with the current realities of the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the world at large, maintaining: “Our priority was the health, welfare, and safety of our citizens and visitors.”
He stated that the Ine festival would be a subdued affair devoid of all the usual fanfare, merry making, but would remain highly spiritual, insisting however that all activities must follow the government guidelines with regards to the COVID-19 protocols.
“Similarly, activities are hereby restricted to key chiefs, elders and persons with important roles to perform. In addition, all public traditional activities are hereby suspended, citizens and visitors are advised to celebrate the festival privately at their various home,” the monarch stressed.
The Obi called for support and understanding to make the festival safe and successful. “Our ancestors will continue to heal our land and bless our sons and daughters,” he prayed.
