Within the week, Governor Ademola Adeleke danced in Aso Rock in the presence of the very people who fought against his second term election in Osun State. That absurd and nonsensical dance is the clearest demonstration yet that those who died in the Osun State election were just pawns in the game of politics. This is a lesson to Nigerians who would want to sacrifice themselves for the political ambition of a politician, any politician for that matter. In Aso Rock, in the presence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC members, Adeleke simply danced on the grave of matyars of democracy in Osun State.
This outlandish and self centred disposition would not make us to lose faith in the eternal values and relevance of democracy. It will make us to be very careful of the character of people we vote for in election. In less than six months, Adeleke could forget the cast determination of the Osun people who saved him from the shark infested ocean of APC in the state. Most APC governors and followers descended on Osun State with the sole aim of convincing the electorate to vote for their candidate and feast on Accord Party carcasses. Adeleke was derided and that he was only infamous for dancing. Even a senator called on APC members to shoot Accord Party members. The national leader of Accord Party denounced Adeleke as not their annionted candidate. Davido, the music sensation and nephew of the governor put his life on line and campaigned for his uncle, the governor. The APC threatened thunder and brimstone to use federal might to rig Adeleke out. Huge money was deployed to unseat Adeleke but the Osun people stood their ground and gave him resounding victory.
And how do the people get the reward : political ingratitude and betrayal. No wonder, one wit said that politics is the projection of selfish ambition as public interest. There is tomorrow and there would be consequences for Adeleke for abandoning the very people who stood by him against the very APC that is now his new love and flame.
In the Nigerian political clime, you can be PDP member in the morning, APC in the afternoon and NDC in the evening. The Nigerian politician has the morals of a prostitute. The recurring political decimal is the benefit from every political engagement.
Those youths who are ready to kill others because of their political masters should know that the politician do not love nor care about their welfare. Some people died in Osun state for projecting Adeleke.
Today Adeleke is dancing on democracy grave and insulting the sacrifices of such victims. The families of such people must be gnashing their teeth. Visionless and ideologically bereft politicians could make deals with the devil to acquire power. This is the primitive level of our political development. It is as unfortunate as sadly disappointing that Adeleke now see APC as his saviour.
