Protect facilities in your domain, commissioner charges communities

The Delta State Government said it will no longer renovate vandalized school facilities where benefiting communities fail to protect them.
The State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Chiedu Ebie, made this known when he inspected the ongoing construction of the new Government Secondary School, Ughelli, Emore Grammar School, Oleh, Otu Jeremi Secondary Schools, Otu jeremi and Iwhreko Primary School, Ughelli.
Mr Ebie stated that communities where projects were sited had the responsibility to ensure such projects were protected from vandals, saying they should intensify the level of cooperation they give in securing the facilities in the schools.
He restated that the Delta State Government would continue to give priority attention to the education of the sub sector, noting that education played a very crucial role in the SMART Agenda of the present administration
The commissioner charged contractors handling the ministry’s projects to ensure that they keep to the contract specifications as contained in the bills of quantity and deliver quality jobs that would stand the test of time.
Mr. Ebie reiterated the state government’s commitment to developing the basic and secondary sub sector in the state, adding that it was why so much emphasis was placed on the construction/renovation of public schools across the state to make academic activities in schools conducive.
At the newly established Government Secondary School, Ughelli, the commissioner said that the school had 24 classrooms built on two floors, four laboratories, sickbay, library, computer room and boarding facilities for male and female students saying that the project had reached advanced stage and that the school would be opened for academic activities in the new session.
The Commissioner also inspected Iwhreko Primary School, Ughelli where he said that there would be a total upgrade of facilities in the school observing that the existing structures in the school were no longer conducive for learning.
At Emore Grammar School, Oleh and Otu-Jeremi Secondary School, Mr Ebie expressed satisfaction with the level of work done by the contractors and urged them to complete the job on time for commissioning and use by the students.
