‘Temporary setback, not defeat’, Delta North Senatorial Candidate vows to fight On as Court ruling shakes party registration

Ochei Stands Firm: “My Mission for Delta North Cannot Be Derailed by Any Court Judgment”

ASABA — In the face of a Federal High Court ruling that threatens to upend his senatorial ambitions, Rt. Hon. (Engr.) Victor O. Ochei has sent a defiant message to his supporters across Delta North: stay calm, stay focused, and trust the process.

The 2027 Senatorial Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) broke his silence on Saturday following the court’s decision concerning the party’s registration, a ruling that has cast uncertainty over the political landscape in Delta North. But rather than retreat, Ochei is doubling down.

“I received the judgment with profound respect for the judiciary as a critical institution of Nigeria’s democracy,” Ochei stated. “However, I respectfully disagree with the decision.”

The former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, and a legal practitioner, is not one to yield easily. With a career spanning the bar, the engineering profession, and the highest echelons of state legislative power, Ochei has built a reputation as a leader who navigates turbulence with precision.

“Challenges are part of every democratic journey,” he declared. “But they neither diminish our resolve nor weaken our commitment to service.”

‘Our Faith Must Be Stronger Than Our Fears’

Ochei, who has been described by political observers as a grassroots powerhouse in Delta North, moved swiftly to reassure the thousands of supporters, volunteers, and sympathizers who have rallied behind his candidacy.

He urged them to view the court ruling not as an endpoint, but as a temporary hurdle that will be cleared through lawful democratic means. “I encourage all my supporters to remain peaceful, steadfast, and focused,” he said. “Let us keep our eyes on the ball and refuse to lose sleep over what I believe is only a temporary setback. Our faith must remain stronger than our fears.”

The NDC’s leadership has already signaled its intention to challenge the judgment through appropriate legal channels, a move Ochei fully endorses.

“I stand firmly with the party as it pursues a positive and logical resolution in accordance with the law,” he affirmed.

A Mission That Transcends Politics

For Ochei, the senatorial aspiration has never been about fleeting political fortunes. It is, he insists, about a sincere commitment to provide purposeful representation and quality leadership for the people of Delta North.

“My aspiration is anchored on a simple but enduring mission, to deliver effective representation for the good people of Delta North Senatorial District and to be a dependable voice for our people wherever they may be,” he said. “That mission remains intact and cannot be derailed.”

Political analysts note that Ochei’s appeal cuts across party lines in Delta North, where his tenure as Speaker earned him a reputation for bridge-building and legislative competence. His decision to run under the NDC was seen by many as a strategic move to offer an alternative vision for the district, a vision now temporarily clouded by legal uncertainty.

Loyalty to Party, Commitment to Justice

Despite the setback, Ochei reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the NDC and its leadership. “I reaffirm my confidence in the leadership of our great party and assure them of my unwavering support and availability as we collectively navigate this moment,” he said.

His message to the people of Delta North was equally resolute: “I remain optimistic that, through due process, justice will prevail and this matter will ultimately reach a positive and logical conclusion. My commitment to your aspirations remains unwavering. No temporary legal setback will diminish the shared vision of building a better future for our senatorial district and Nigeria at large.”

What’s Next?

As the NDC prepares to challenge the court ruling, all eyes will be on the appellate courts, and on Ochei’s ability to keep his movement united and energized.

For now, the man who once presided over Delta State’s legislative affairs is urging patience, unity, and faith in the judicial process. “This is not the end of the road,” he insists. “This is a moment that will test our resolve and we will emerge  stronger.
