Delta State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Vincent Uduaghan has re-affirmed Government’s resolve to deal decisively with questionable Officers in Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA).
Mr. Uduaghan stated this during a management meeting he held with Delta State Traffic Management Authority Directors.
The Commissioner reiterated that “any Officer caught in the web of corruption would be shown the way out, as I have said this the umpteenth time.”
According to Mr. Uduaghan, “From the report of Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee presented him, three (3) Officers; Mr. Odita Emmanuel, Mr. Spencer Avwurhi and Mr. Blessing Amatagiwa have cases of bribery and insubordination established against them. The Officers were formally deployed from the Directorate of Establishment and Pensions, State Universal Basic Education and Office of the Deputy Governor.
He stated that from the report, it was “clear that the character of the Officers in soliciting bribe from Motorists, publishing issues of DESTMA in the social media without authorization as well as insubordination displayed to the Director-General-DESTMA amount to Misconduct and Gross Indiscipline” saying that “if such acts were not speedily checked, the State Government’s good intention of creating DESTMA would lead to stigmatization.”
Uduaghan reiterated that the Officers have since been re-deployed to their parent MDAs, based on the recommendation from the Panel of Inquiry and the outcome of their investigation as such would serve as a deterrent to others.
Present at the meeting were, the Director of Land Transport, Engr. Austin Odiete, DESTMA Director-General, Mr. Stephen Dieseruvwe and DESTMA Director of Operations, Navy Commander Azubuike Idah (Rtd) amongst others.
Adding their voices to the issue of Officers misbehavior and indiscipline were the DESTMA Director-General, Mr. Stephen Dieseruvwe and DESTMA Director of Operations, Navy Commander Azubuike Idah (Rtd) who jointly stated that cases of bribery, indiscipline and unruly behaviours would not be accepted in any guise.
